What is Accelerated Reading (AR)?

Mountain View Elementary implements the Accelerated Reading program in grades three through six. This reading program tests students' ability to recall information from books they have read. Once students have completed their reading book, they are required to take the AR quiz. If the book also has a vocabulary quiz, they are encouraged to take this as well. Students should read a mix of fiction and nonfiction texts.

How can I determine if the book my child is reading has an AR quiz?

The Accelerated Reading program has a bookfinder website where parents can go to check if books have an AR quiz. When visiting the bookfinder website, search the title of the book. For each AR book in the program, the website includes:

  • Student Interest Level (IL: lower grades (LG), middle grades (MG), middle grades and up (MG+), and upper grades (UG)

  • Book Genre (Fiction or Nonfiction)

  • Possible AR Points (If the student did not miss any questions)

  • Types of AR quizes provided (Reading Practice- RP, Vocabulary Practice- VP)
